Mr. Root is a different kind of teacher.
To call his China experience vast is an understatement. He came to China for
the first time in 1982; the time when the Mr and Mrs average Chinese wore
identical green or blue “uniforms”, featured identical haircuts and earned
an average of 300 yuan per month.
Jacobus has an enviable teaching track record indeed in teaching English as
a foreign language.
He can boasts many years experience of language teaching among immigrants
and their children in New Zealand, using teaching materials designed by
himself. |
In China he has been teaching at primary schools and key junior and senior
high schools as well as holding refresher courses for Chinese teachers.
Mr. Root has a helpful disposition and a keen sense of humour. He is a
certified China Foreign Expert teacher, and has a BCA degree from Victoria
University in Wellington, New Zealand, and various other international
qualifications. He was awarded a special diploma by the Shanghai Education
department for the successful management of several “English Culture weeks”
Jacobus also studied at Jiao Tong University and we are happy to have him
occupy the other side of the lectern.
Mr. Root has been commissioned to teach at Jiao Tong University because of
his extensive experience with Chinese students; an intimate knowledge of
their problems and their motivation (or lack thereof); his knack of solving
problem situations effectively and his propensity to stay unruffled, when
everyone else loses their cool.
